This weekend marks the 37th annual Hot Times Festival. This year, the three day festival (September 6-8) will be held on the lawns of the Columbus Health Department at the corner of Main St. and Parsons Ave. in the Olde Towne East neighborhood of Columbus. Billed as the “Friendliest Festival in Columbus,” this independent and 100% volunteer-driven community festival is set in and around a beautiful grassy area with mature hardwood trees, providing the perfect spot to relax and enjoy music. This year the festival features 3 stages of live entertainment, art, a street fair, the Columbus Children’s Parade on Saturday morning, and the largest art car show in Ohio.

This year’s headline performance features one of the “architects of funk music,” Fred Wesley. Wesley was music director, arranger, trombonist and a primary composer for the legendary James Brown from 1968 – 1975 and thereafter, arranged and played for Parliament-Funkadelic and Bootsy’s Rubber Band, and has arranged and played with a plethora of soul, jazz, and Latin artists. After playing for a time with the Count Basie Orchestra, he has kept his focus on playing, writing, and celebrating jazz.
