Latimer also patented a safety elevator and air purifier for hospitals. Because of his work with electricity, he became one of Thomas Edison’s closest colleagues and a respected inventor of Edison Electric Lighting, which is now known as General Electric.
Lewis H. Latimer died on December 11, 1928.
