The 17-year-old whiz kid, who attends William Floyd High School in Mastic, revealed that he selected the New Haven school founded in 1701 not only for its historic campus but for the undisclosed amount of financial aid that was offered to him. The young scholar, whose parents are nurses, hopes to go in to medicine himself one day and become a doctor.

Enin could have had his pick of universities as he had seven other creme de la creme institutions that were also courting him: Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Princeton University, and the University of Pennsylvania. This year’s Ivy League average admission rate is 8.925 percent, and for the Class of 2018, for all of Enin’s eight schools, only 22,624 were accepted.

According to the first-generation Ghanaian, who managed to score 2,250 on his SAT’s,”I met geniuses from all across the world, and everyone from there was so friendly and inviting,” the high school senior said at a press conference he held at his school’s gymnasium to prevent a media frenzy. “I believe that their deep appreciation and love for music, like I have, was very critical in my decision to go there.”

As soon as news of Enin’s accomplishment hit, he was barraged by news media and even managed a TV appearance on “Late Night with David Letterman.” He now wants to relax, keep his schedule free, and just focus on the university’s upcoming advanced placement test.  Enin adds, “I’m mostly excited to meet all the new friends I’ll find in college, the new experiences I’ll have, and the new beginnings.”
