Two years ago, Ashanti and Nelly called it quits on their 10-year relationship and now the singer has finally opened up on why the romance ended. The “I Got It” singer appeared on The Meredith Vieira Showon Friday, where she discussed her why the two parted ways. The two were notorious for keeping quiet on dating and never spoke out on why they broke up, but Ashanti gave some insight as to why they separated. Ashanti informed Meredith trust played a key factor in her relationship’s demise. Ashanti revealed:
I think sometimes when people have their own insecurities it allows them to act out of character. I’ve been betrayed. Again, you just have to grow, you have to grow up and accept responsibilities for the things that you do. I’m not a big fan of people being cowards. I think it’s really important to know yourself and understand what you want and get it. I’m in a different place right now
Ashanti also told Meredith about her family being stalked since 2003 by a deranged fan. Over the years the singer has been to court over the ordeal with Devar Hurd, who was sent to jail twice for harassing Ashtanti. The New York Post reported last year, the Ashanti’s case against Hurd was declared a mistrial. Ashanti remarked:
It’s not fun, it’s a little kooky. It’s very annoying to continue to take off from what I have to do with work for court and stuff. I think we have to go back to court again this month and I’m not thrilled at all.
