Not only is he the star of Black-ish, ABC’s modern answer to The Cosby Show, Anthony Anderson has become the go-to awards show host. This weekend, he’ll host the UNCF Evening of Stars on BET that includes performances by Jussie Smollett, Toni Braxton and Babyface, Yolanda Adams, KEM, K. Michelle and Morris Day and The Time. Kevin Hart, Ludacris, Usher and Anderson himself will be giving scholarships during the show. Anderson will give away an award of student loan forgiveness to a woman in the audience during the show.

Anderson’s not sure, though that he’s doing the right awards shows.

“All the awards except the ones  I want to host,” he says half-jokingly. “When are the Oscars and the Emmys and the ESPY’s going to call me?”

When Sherri suggests that he’ll get the call now that the ratings are down, he’s a little upset.

“Oh, now that that they’re down and in the tank, let’s go to the Black host. I’m going to be the Barack Obama of hosting. Now that the country’s in a hellbucket…”

Anderson says that his record is good hosting shows.

“I had a lot of fun doing the Image Awards. They came to me a couple of years ago and every year the ratings go up about 25% so somebody’s doing something right,” Anderson says.

When Faizon asks if Anderson thinks it’s because of his weight loss, Anderson fires back with ‘And that’s coming from a man with no neck!”

Anderson, who had to lose weight after a diabetes diagnosis, admits he was in denial.

“I look back on pictures – I used to lie to myself not to mention somebody else, and say that I was just husky. I was in denial about my health and my weight and my well-being.”

Amazingly, at least to Anderson, Faizon says he has no health issues.

“I don’t understand how you can be as big and black as Faizon is and be fit as a fiddle,” he says. “Faizon ain’t got high blood pressure, hypertension anything that’s killing the Black man you ain’t got.”

In what may be a TJMS first, Anderson calls back after his interview is over, to talk more about the UNCF and to get in few more digs on buddy Faizon. Listen to the hilarity above.

The UNCF Evening Of Stars airs on BET on Sunday, April 26 at 10 p.m/9 p.m. Central.
