According to Fox 28, Danny Smith says not long after the story aired, and word hit the internet, he got a call the stolen race car was parked along Parsons Avenue. Smith told Steve Levine he went to check out the area and found it.

While he doesn’t know if the person who contacted him was connected to the theft, he’s just happy to have his car back.

GROVEPORT (Steve Levine) — Thieves drove off with a $500,000 race car in Groveport, hours before it was to be transported to a race this weekend in Licking County.

“I am lucky to be standing, you would think I’d faint,” said Danny Smith, of Smith Brother’s Racing, as he talks about his 1967 Plymouth Belvedere Hemi race car. The was stolen overnight Thursday from inside a trailer parked next to his racing business.

“It’s a walking billboard, gold leaf lettering all over it, it’s got a special VIN number,” said Smith.

The vehicle is one of only 55 of the model manufactured by Chrysler, and has only been driven on a racetrack. The Plymouth was packed inside a trailer, ready to be transported to a weekend competition at National Trail Raceway, when thieves busted open security brackets to get inside.

“It’s never in the trailer, it’s always in the warehouse, somebody had to be watching me put it in the trailer,” said Smith.

Police have already combed the trailer from top to bottomn getting fingerprints and looking for clues to find the creeps who stole the vintage race car.

“This was either somebody super smart and does this for a living or is really dumb,” said Smith. “I just don’t think you can take a car that is a walking bilboard, you either have to torch it or cut it apart,” Smith said.

Smith now planning to offer a reward to get his rare collectable back in his garage.

“It’s not the money, it’s my heart,” he said.
