Beyoncé dropped a new song, Formation yesterday and it is officially one of the best “fist in the air’, ladies anthems I’ve heard in a while. She totally sets the record straight about her roots, the illuminati, Jay Z, Blue Ivy’s hair and gettin’ her money up! Right out the gate Bey goes in…”Y’all haters corny with that illuminati mess. Paparazzi, catch my fly and my cocky fresh. I’m so reckless when I rock my Givenchy dress (stylin’.) I’m so possessive so I rock his Roc necklace. My daddy Alabama, my momma Louisiana, you mix that negro with that Creole make a Texas Bama. I like my baby hair, with baby hair and Afros. I like my Negro nose with Jackson 5 nostrils. Earned money, but they never take the country out me… I got hot sauce in my bag, swag.”

The video is filmed in New Orleans and has many socially conscious undertones. Since its Black History Month, I think this song was a dope way to take a risk and show artistry while addressing social, economic and personal concerns. I’ve seen mixed reviews on social media about some of her lyrics. Beyoncé mentions taking her man to Red Lobster, to the mall to get some Jordans and for a ride in her chopper if he gets her right in the bedroom. I mean, she’s married!  All women want to be satisfied and what’s wrong with doing any of the aforementioned for your man? To me, the message here is that she can take her man out and foot the bill. While chicks are laying up, twerking and getting mad injections to get a man or for a man who won’t put a ring on it, she got her man and can treat him. Oh and if anyone questioned her bank account and/ or influence, Bey mentions how her man, with her help, could be the next Black Bill Gates in the making or better yet, she may be the next Black Bill Gates in the making. How about that? Yeah, boss status for sure and I’m totally here for it.

Bottomline, ladies, we need to get in ‘formation’…be unapologetic about who you are and not afraid to go after our own success. If you have a man, take care of him. Help him get to his next level while handling your business. Raise your children on your terms, forget what everyone else is talking about. Go hard, slay and get what’s yours. And at the end of the day, “always stay gracious, best revenge is your paper.” (drops mic.)
