CLEVELAND – Tyronn Lue, head coach of our 2016 NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers, has signed a new, multi-year contract with the team.
Cavs General Manager David Griffin made the official announcement Tuesday.
The Cleveland Cavaliers coach agreed to a five-year, $35 million extension on Monday,according to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski. ESPN reported the first four years are guaranteed with a team option for the fifth year.
Lue was promoted to head coach from associate head coach on January 22, making him the Cavs 20th head coach in their franchise history. He was the first head coach in NBA history to win his first 10 postseason games, the fourth-youngest head coach to win an NBA championship as well as the third coach ever to win a championship after taking over a team in the middle of the season.
As Cleveland well knows, the Cavs also became the first team to overcome a 3-1 deficit in Finals history and the fourth team ever to win an NBA Finals Game 7 on the road.
