Nykea Aldridge, 32, a mother of four, was walking to register her children for school on the city’s South Side.
Dwyane Wade‘s cousin was shot and killed in Chicago Friday afternoon while pushing her 3-week-old baby girl in a stroller on the city’s South Side, reports the New York Daily News, precipitating the latest outcry against gun violence in a city wracked by violence.
Nykea Aldridge, 32, a mother of four, was gunned down as she walked to register her children for school in the Parkway Gardens neighborhood, the report says. Wade, who has been outspoken about violence in his hometown, and who recently returned to the city to play with the Bulls, expressed his grief about the loss on social media.
A family spokesman said Aldridge was about to enter “the Dulles School of Excellence when she was caught in a crossfire as two men opened fire on a third man around 3:30 p.m.,” reports the News:
Aldridge was struck in the head and arm and died at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman said.
“The whole entire family is racked by this loss,” Jones said. “It’s just horrible, not just for our family, but for the entire city that this continues to happen.”
Aldrige’s baby was not injured, and police said a relative took custody of the child after the shooting.
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump did not hesitate to seize the moment to woo White moderate voters to his flagging campaign. But Twitter was not here for it.
Dwayne Wade’s cousin was just shot and killed walking her baby in Chicago. Just what I have been saying. African-Americans will VOTE TRUMP!
