Marvin Isley, bass player for the legendary Isley Brothers, died June 6th from complications of diabetes at 56.

Marvin, his brothers, and cousin Chris Jasper, were a major force in black music during the 70s, and Marvin’s basslines anchored such classics as “Footsteps In The Dark,” “That Lady,” “Voyage To Atlantis,” “Fight The Power,” and many more.

Marvin formed Isley-Jasper-Isley with his brother Ernie and cousin Chris in 1984.  The trio had a hit single with 1985’s “Caravan of Love.”

He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame along with the rest of the Isley Brothers in 1992.

In 1997, Marvin was diagnosed with diabetes and retired from music, later having both of his legs amputated as a result of the disease.
