Wilfried Nancy, head coach of the Columbus Crew, has been named the 2024 MLS Coach of the Year! This marks the coach’s first win in the award’s history. Nancy becomes the third Crew coach to earn the honor, following Sigi Schmid in 2008 and Greg Andrulis in 2004.

Wilfried Nancy received 40.02% of the vote, passing up finalists Tata Martino of Inter Miami and Chris Armas of the Colorado Rapids.

Nancy: “It is an honor to win this award because it represents the collective spirit and hard work of my coaches, support staff, players, and family. We accomplished many things together this past year. I’m proud of the group’s commitment to improving for ourselves, our teammates, our club, and our fans. That’s why this award is possible.”

In only his second year with the team, Nancy led the team to a record-breaking season with a 19-6-9 record with 66 points. The Crew also broke their record for most goals scored in a season with 72 and held a league-best +32 goal differential.

Nancy’s win comes after being a finalist for the award in the past two seasons. In 2022, he lost to Jim Curtin of the Philadelphia Union by a slim margin while he was coaching for CF Montreal. Wilfried credits his staff and players for their consistency and commitment.

This award adds to a successful year for the Crew. RB Steven Moreira also earned recognition as the 2024 Defender of the Year. Meanwhile, striker Cucho Hernández is in the running for the 2024 MVP award. He’s up against Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi and three others. The projected winner is leaning towards Hernández or Messi.
