According to 10TV, finding the best discounts may actually depend on which day you go shopping. Everyone loves to see sale signs at their favorite stores. But your dreams of saving big may be dashed when the clearance section may not have your size or color.
It may help if you know when the clothes are first marked down. Kyle James of rather-be-shopping.com discovered the secret. He says many retail changes have their markdowns on a schedule.
“By knowing the day, you can really go in and maximize your savings,” says James. For example, if you like Macy’s, you may want to shop on Tuesdays.
“They have to have their markdowns done by Monday close.”
At Old Navy, James says Wednesdays are the best. Markdowns are the first and third Fridays of the month at JC Penney. For Kohls, it’s the second and fourth Saturdays. At the Gap, it’s twice a month on Mondays.
When you go in, James says to combine fresh markdowns with store coupons to get the most savings.
“The employees are very forthcoming with the information. I was polite and said, “I noticed they don’t have much on clearance is there a better day when I can come in.”
