CLEVELAND – Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love has officially opted out of the final year of his contract, ESPN reports .
ESPN’s March Stein was first to report the news and says Love turned down $16.7 million he was scheduled to make next year and will become a free agent July 1.
Love had his right shoulder dislocated in Game 4 of the team’s playoff matchup against Boston in a controversial play in which it appeared Celtics center Kelly Olyny pulled his arm during a loose ball chase.
Olynyk has been suspended one game in the upcoming season for the play.
The power forward underwent surgery to repair the shoulderand was expected to be out 4-6 months, placing a return just before the beginning of the 2015-2016 season.
When asked during the Cavs playoff run if he’d play again for Cleveland , he responded, “Yes sir.”
