CLEVELAND – The City of Cleveland will receive $50 million in security funding for next year’s Republican National Convention.

The federal Fiscal Year 2016 appropriations bill includes $100 million to be used for security costs associated with the 2016 Democratic and Republican National Convention.

The money would be appropriated under the Department of Justice’s Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant program and would be divided equally between Cleveland and Philadelphia.

“Ensuring the safety of convention goers and the Cleveland community is a critical component of the convention planning process,” said Sen. Rob Portman.
