LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL (RNN) – The body of a 2-year-old boy who was dragged by an alligator into a Disney resort lake has been recovered, according to CNN.

The Orange County sheriff said in a Wednesday morning news conference that there was no question that the child was dead. He has been missing since 9 p.m. ET Tuesday.

Sheriff Jerry Demings said at that time that the search has gone from a rescue attempt to a recovery effort for the boy’s body. He said investigators from multiple departments would search until the body was found.

“Our ultimate goal is to try and bring some closure to the family by recovering their loved one,” Demings said.

A news conference that was originally set for 6 p.m. ET has been moved up and will begin momentarily.

Searchers have killed five alligators in the search area, but they believe none of them are the one that grabbed the child.

Officials called the effort to find the child a “search and rescue” early Wednesday but admitted a grim outcome had become more likely. Disney World announced Wednesday it had closed all of the beaches at its properties.

The child was snatched away from his family, who have not been identified, as they waded in a lake at the Grand Floridian Beach and Spa, a Disney World resort.
