While fans prepare to watch the championship game in the Women’s Final Four, a team that left an impression on central Ohio was honored.

For two years the Columbus Quest women’s basketball team called the capital city home.

The team was top-ranked in the American Basketball league or ABL, winning the league championship in both the 1996-1997 and the 1997-1998 seasons.

“We loved the fact that we could influence the younger generations,” Former Quest player Andrea Lloyd said.

“We allowed young girls to know that there were opportunities out there for them too.”

The winning ways of the Columbus Quest came to an end when the league folded in the middle of the third season. Many players continued to play in the newly formed WNBA.

The closure of the league meant the women on the team’s second winning season did not have the opportunity to collect their rings, but 20 years later the team reunited to collect what they earned.

Each former teammate on the Columbus Quest received a championship ring in a ceremony at Nationwide Arena.
