Jasmine Guy is Finally Telling Her Own Story.
Jasmine Guy is ready to tell the story behind the woman audiences know as Whitley Gilbert. Her upcoming memoir, A Different Girl, was written with her daughter, Imani Guy Duckette, and will explore Guy’s experiences with depression, self-image, racism in Hollywood and her relationships with stars including Whitney Houston, Debbie Allen and Tupac Shakur.
The book will also cover her Atlanta upbringing, her dance training with Alvin Ailey and her journey through the entertainment industry. A Different Girl is scheduled to be released February 9, 2027, and is available for preorder.
The announcement comes as Guy prepares to return as Whitley in Netflix’s A Different World sequel, premiering September 24, 2026.
