It’s official.  Ohio voters approved casinos.    Unofficial results show Issue 3 passing by a margin of 53% for and %47 against.  Ohio casinos will be constructed in Columbus, Cleveland, Toledo and Cincinnati.  This was the 5th attempt within the past 20 years to legalize casino gambling within the state of Ohio.

It was a significant victory for Penn National Gaming Inc. and Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, who spent nearly $35 million promoting four big-city casinos in Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Toledo. An economic impact study commissioned by the campaign predicted nearly 35,000 temporary and permanent jobs and $4 billion in economic impact, though social costs were not considered.
