Franklyn Richardson, senior pastor of Grace Baptist Church, and Television Commentator and activist Julie Menin. The event is being hosted by MSNBC’s Ed Schultz and Mara Schiavocampo.

According to Rev. Sharpton “The Triumph Awards will be a special night for National Action Network because people like the late James Brown and Michael Jackson always supported what was right, even if it was difficult.  The artists, entertainers and athletes that are being honored have made a mark in their professions and have recognized the need to remain connected to something bigger and greater than any individual achievement.  They have remained connected to the people, have supported their growth and development, and realized that together we are a better world.

Sponsors include NBC Universal, American Honda, Macy’s, NASCAR, Ariel Capitol, Comcast, General Electric, Pepsi Co., New Roosevelt Initiative, Agnes and Robert Jacobs, Intermedia Partners, and Wal-Mart Inc.

National Action Network is one of the leading Civil Rights organizations in the nation with over 49 chapters across the United States. Founded by Reverend Al Sharpton in 1991, the organization works extensively to promote a modern Civil Rights agenda, which includes a standard of decency for all people regardless of race or sex, social justice for all communities, and improvement of race relations.   Through the years, NAN has served as a megaphone for the voiceless and an advocate for those in need.  The organization champions issues relating to education, racial inequity, voter registration and education, and police misconduct.
