SOUTH COVERED IN SNOW AND ICE
Parts of the South remained coated with snow and ice yesterday, jamming the morning commute for many and cancelling thousands of flights. Sleet, ice and several inches of snow — as much as 9 inches in some places —covered states from Louisiana to the Carolinas. Four deaths were blamed on icy roads and thousands were left without power. The governors of Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee all declared emergencies. In Atlanta – a city that rarely sees snow – three inches fell in some areas. Two-thousand flights at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport were cancelled.
