Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman has landed a slot on a presidentially appointed board that advises the government on historic preservation policy.

President Barack Obama this week appointed Coleman to the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation. Also appointed were Horace Henry Foxall Jr., a recent retiree from the Army Corps of Engineers; and Bradford White, a consultant in the Chicago area.

In naming Coleman to the post, Obama’s office cited the mayor’s efforts to rejuvenate downtown Columbus, including major renovations of the Lincoln Theatre and the Lazarus building. Coleman also backed the creation of the Columbus Franklin County Affordable Housing Trust Corp., which has marshaled efforts to expand inner-city housing.
