The parents of a University of Northern Colorado student who died while texting and driving share the photo of their late son’s last text to dissuade people from texting behind the wheel.
Alexander Heit was responding to a text message when he drifted into oncoming traffic, jerked the steering wheel and rolled his car off the road on April 3.
The 22-year-old University of Northern Colorado student died shortly after the incident in Greeley, Colo., The Greeley Tribune reported Tuesday.
Heit’s phone was found in the car with his final text message cut mid-sentence. His parents have decided to share a picture of the phone, hoping it will serve as reminder of the dangers of texting and driving.

According to witnesses, Heit had his head down when he lost control of the car and drifted toward the oncoming lane in Greeley, where UNC is located.
Police officers said the oncoming driver tried to slow down and moved over seconds before Heit looked up and jerked the steering wheel to the other side of the road, rolling and flipping the vehicle.
