Tonight at 7pm The Wexner Center For The Arts will screen a soon to be talked about film “The New Black”.  It’s a serious look at how the African American Community accepts gays and lesbians.  The New Black examines the role of the African American community in the debate over the gay marriage movement. Focusing on the 2012 legal battle in Maryland—one of 17 states in the US to have legalized same-sex marriage—director Yoruba Richen delivers a nuanced exploration of the diverse range of attitudes from people on both sides of the debate and provides insight into this unique nexus of race, religion, and sexual identity. Richen, a 2012 Guggenheim Foundation Fellow, has also created the documentaries Promised Land (2009)

You’re invited to meet in the lower lobby at 6 PM before the film begins for a reception welcoming the director. It’s  Open to the public, the reception is cosponsored by Ohio State’s Office of Student Life Multicultural Center. The film will screen promptly at 7pm. Watch a sneak preview of the movie below.
