On Wednesday’s episode of Raven-Symone Gets Paid To Be The Token Black Person Who Says Crazy Shit, (also known as her hosting gig on The View) the actress-formerly-known-as-a-sane-person was back up to her old tricks.

In response to the lovely news that a group is petitioning to have Harriet Tubman’s face on the $20 bill, Symone said, “No offense to everyone who’s going to be mad at me for saying this, [but] I don’t like that idea.”

She said:

I think we need to move a little bit more forward … I understand, let me just preference that I understand the history, I get it, trust me , I was taught, I’m in that culture …

… Me personally, I would have chosen Rosa Parks. I would have chosen someone that is closer to the progression that we’re doing now. And I know you have to understand history so that you don’t repeat it, but that doesn’t really happen in our world, because we still repeat history of hating other cultures over and over again. So I would choose a different one, no offense.

No offense? Move forward?

Ok, Rave, babe, let’s chat for a minute. I loved you in That’s So Raven. So I’m just going to temporarily curb my eye-rolling at basically every comment you’ve made for the last year or so and try to give you the benefit of the doubt for three minutes.

Fine if you prefer Rosa Parks! She was an incredible figure in history. You are completely entitled to your own opinion. I don’t discount any of the other women’s remarkable achievements and contributions to society.

But to disparage someone like Harriet Tubman as basically being irrelevant in front of millions of people … to DISMISS her in such a manner … makes you part of the subtle, but never-ending movement to erase the Black Experience from American history. When you say “move a little bit forward,” it basically translates to “stop talking about slavery.” Which basically translates to “get over it.” And we’re tired of hearing that.

So tired.

It’s just not ok.

Maybe you don’t know history beyond “what you’ve been taught.” But slavery really, ACTUALLY happened. And after freeing herself, Harriet Tubman went back on 13 missions to free hundreds of other slaves from the bounds of captivity. That wasn’t an episode of your Disney show, baby girl. It was real.

And even though you don’t want to be seen as African-American because that makes you uncomfortable, you are STILL Black. Had you been around in Harriet’s day, you would have been enslaved, too. Yea girl, I said it. All of your wealth, all of your stupid comments, all of your interviews and your rich-person feelings — they can’t erase that.

I see what’s really happening here. Your new schtick is basically being the “provocative” Black person (just don’t call her Black though). The one that’s “not like the others.” So you always have to say something that challenges the status quo. You’re now the one who further perpetuates this “color blind” America everyone wants us to believe in. And look, now your career is on fire, right? What a coincidence! (Side-eye).

I’m actually sad for you, Raven. Understand that all you are doing is making yourself into a joke. Your ignorance, whether real or pretend, is on absolute, full, raw display. And when all of this fades away, who will you be?

I just can’t with you. Please come back to reality and stop performing for these folks once and for all.
