CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –
Attorneys for the family of Tamir Rice sent a letter to Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim McGinty Thursday, asking for aggravated murder charges to be filed against Cleveland Police Officer Timothy Loehmann.
On November 22, 2014, Tamir was shot by Officer Loehmann after police received a report of a male with a gun outside Cudell Recreation Center in Cleveland.
Tamir died the next day. The gun turned out to be an Airsoft-type BB gun.
According to the Cuyahoga County sheriff’s investigation, Officer Loehmann, who fired the shot, was distraught and was overheard muttering something to the effect of he had a gun and reached for it after I told him to show his hands.
