Spider on a web

Yikes! I HATE spiders, but they do serve their purpose. According to Fox 28, they are invading the Main Street Bridge and it has nothing to do with Halloween.

Ohio Department of Natural Resources says most of the spiders on the bridge are Arabesque Orbweavers. They are harmless unless you bother them.

The spiders are more visible at night. When you walk along the bridge, the webs and spiders hanging around can make it look like a haunted house.

While a lot of people are grossed out by the spiders, a lot of people enjoy the view. “It’s kind of halloweenish you know it’s like oh look at all those spider webs,” said J.J. Lessard who lives nearby.

ODNR says spiders like the structure of the bridge because it’s easy to form a web. The spiders are making the river water better by eating insects that come from the water.

Even though the creepy crawlers are good for the environment, several people who walk along Main Street Bridge say they are grossed out. But there are many who say they will continue to enjoy the view.
