The crowd was there, the support of the city was heard throughout the inner linings of 270, and for all but a few moments it appeared the South Bulldogs we going to bring some hardware to Ann Street for the first time since 1965.

Unfortunately, the Bulldogs run came to a screeching halt as they fell to Trotwood-Madison, 77-73 in the Division II State Championship Saturday afternoon in front of 9,881 at the Schottenstein Center.

With roughly five minutes left in the game, the Bulldogs had a 68-60 lead over the overwhelmingly favored Rams. Trotwood finished the game on a 17-5 run to win their first title in school history.

South had four players score in double figures in the loss, including junior guard Trevell Adams who had 16 points and seven rebounds. Sam Barton added 16 points and 7 rebounds while Marcus Johnson and Alvin Byrd had 14 and 13 points respectively.

The Bulldogs only graduate two seniors from this magical ride. Head coach Ramon Spears has a lot to look forward to next year in hopes of making it back to the Schot for another crack at it.
