What went wrong for Republicans in their recent showdown with the president and Democrats over the debt ceiling and funding the government? “We picked the wrong time to go to battle. I think that is the overall sentiment from a lot of GOPers,” said Noelle Nikpour, a GOP strategist, to Roland Martin. She added, regarding Tea Party elements of the GOP, “They were not prepared. They really didn’t have a plan.”

Nikpour said a lot of people in her party are “irritated” with Texas Senator Ted Cruz, who led the charge to tie the shutdown negotiations to delaying Obamacare – but not angry for the same reason as liberals. Republicans were upset with the timing, but not the sentiment, explained Nikpour, who is also against the health care insurance law.

Martin begged to differ with her on the merits of Obamacare. Hear them spar over President Obama’s signature piece of legislation, during the full exchange in the clip below, and tune in to “NewsOne Now” with Roland Martin weekdays at 10 a.m. EST.
